Learning a New language

Learning a new language can take time and commitment but it can also be fun. Personally, I'm learning Spanish and Hebrew. Spanish because that's what I learned in high school, and I always wanted to finish it because it was easy, being that the alphabet is similar to English, and it is the second language in the United States. Now, I am trying to learn Hebrew as well because I have been studying scripture and thought it would be cool to one day read Hebrew. I don't know if I will be fluent in either one, but I do now if I can learn one of them, I would feel accomplished.

But why should you take time out to learn a new language? I once saw someone post that learning a new language can open doors to spreading the gospel. You might meet someone as a Christian and they may speak another language. How else would you connect with them other than learning? You can meet them halfway and see the process as fulfilling. You can give more glory to God when you put in the hard work to connecting with someone else. We love that person so much that we would choose to work hard to bring them to Christ. Although Christ getting glory should be the ultimate reason there is a certain pleasure you get when you have knowledge of something that some people don't. Not everyone can speak multiple languages, so you already set yourself a part if you were fluent in more than one language. I'm not saying take pride in it, but it is definitely applaudable. If you are starting out, I would recommend YouTube because they have free content. Remember that when you learn a new language, try to challenge yourself and hear what they are saying without looking because when you talk to someone, you won't have the words in front of you and when you first learned your language, you learned by hearing first. if you have a friend that speaks the desired language that you want to learn, perhaps have learning sessions with them and see if that helps. Also, you can use the Duolingo app since they have a variety of different languages for you to practice. While hearing is important, you may want to practice writing as much as you can to become familiar. If you're using YouTube, I would watch the videos more than twice. The first time don't write anything and just listen. The second time, you may write what you're learning down and continue to listen. Practice, practice, practice is important.
