Why Exercising Helps

For many people exercising can be a dreadful topic, especially if you haven't implemented it into your lifestyle. I'll be the one to admit that I am no athlete. I mean I played lacrosse and soccer, but I haven't kept up the activity outside of high school. Now I'm in my mid-twenties and I realize that I simply have to work out and keep busy, which can be a challenge because my comfort zone is resting on the couch. I've gone through on and off periods of working out throughout my life but recently I decided that I have to keep up with it. The reason for that is because I reached a certain weight and when you reach a certain weight and you're inactive, the harder you have to work to lose it.

When you first start working out again after a dry period, it can be pretty harsh but at the end you always feel that relief and you think "What was I complaining about?" I mean, yes, a 15-minute workout can feel as though it's forever but when you finally reach the end, and you catch your breath you realize it wasn't so bad. And as you keep up with working out every day, it becomes easier. Sometimes you might have days where you just can't do it and that's okay. Whenever i have those days, I just tell myself I am going to do something that keeps me on my feet so that I can get some activity in. That could be folding clothes, cleaning, stretching for a few minutes, or walking around. If you can incorporate something in your off days rather than getting zero activity, then it helps a bunch. If you feel like you can't maintain a proper workout routine, then it would help to carry a workout journal with you to keep you on task and check off each workout that you plan.

I find the saying "When you look good you feel good" to be true. I mean it is cliche but who doesn't feel good with a healthy body? For me I experience less muscle aches and I'm less winded when my body is in good shape. So overall that should tell you something. I know people in general do not want to spend the rest of their lives working out, but it really is a lifestyle and the more you do it, the more you maybe will come to like it. Also, it helps when you challenge yourself and do the exercises that you like the least. Maybe it's cardio, burpees, or whatever but when you challenge yourself and you do it regularly, it's just one less hurdle you have to worry about, and you can say "I did it!"
